Rhaegos, Lord of the Skies
A colossal king who soars high above the skies while cornering you with his every move.
A colossal king who soars high above the skies while cornering you with his every move. Rhaegos is the ultimate boss encounter in Epic Fantasy -- a flying behemoth with an enormous detection range, devastating elemental attacks, and near-total immunity to environmental damage. Come prepared or do not come at all.
Stats
Immunities
Rhaegos is immune to fire, lava, lightning, freezing, fall damage, and suffocation. Do not rely on environmental damage -- only direct weapon strikes will bring him down.
Summoning
The summoning totem for Rhaegos requires end-game materials, including drops from the previous two bosses.
Note: The
Enchanted Flower is obtained by defeating
Emilya, Queen of Nature. The
Purple Diamond is a rare end-game material.
Attacks and Abilities
Rhaegos has the most complex moveset of any boss, with 8 distinct attack patterns:
- Wind Gust -- A powerful blast of wind that pushes the player away and deals damage. Stay grounded or use blocks to brace yourself.
- Lightning Strike -- Calls down lightning on the player's position. Keep moving to avoid being struck.
- Icy Heart -- An ice-based area attack that can freeze and slow you.
- Swoop -- Rhaegos dives from the sky directly at the player. Extremely fast and hard to dodge without preparation.
- Elemental Rage -- A devastating combination attack that unleashes multiple elements at once. His most dangerous ability.
- Summon -- Calls in additional creatures to distract and damage the player.
- Random Dash -- Unpredictable high-speed movement that repositions Rhaegos suddenly.
- Perch -- Rhaegos lands on the ground temporarily. This is your best window to deal melee damage.
Flight Patterns
Rhaegos circles around an anchor point in the sky, making him difficult to hit with melee weapons. He flies in circular patterns varying in radius and altitude, swooping in for attacks before retreating to the air.
Crystal Mechanic
During the fight, crystals spawn around the arena. Destroy them before they despawn to deal massive bonus damage to Rhaegos. This is the single most important mechanic in the fight -- prioritize crystals whenever they appear. (TODO: document crystal spawn timing, health thresholds, and exact bonus damage values.)
Health Milestone
At half health, Rhaegos enters a more aggressive phase with faster and more frequent attacks. Be prepared for the fight to intensify dramatically at this point.
Strategy
- Keep moving constantly. Rhaegos's attacks target your position -- standing still is death.
- Destroy crystals before they despawn for massive bonus damage to Rhaegos. This is the key mechanic that makes the fight manageable.
- Use Slow Falling potions to survive knockback from wind gusts and swoops that can launch you skyward.
- Attack during Perch windows. When Rhaegos lands, close the gap quickly with
Super Jump Rune and deal as much damage as possible.
Golden Grace Rune provides survivability during the chaotic second phase.
Valrath's Staff is the ideal weapon -- its ranged beam can hit Rhaegos while he is airborne.- Bring a
Light Rune or torches. Rhaegos darkens the sky when he spawns, making it hard to track his movements and spot incoming attacks.
