Valrath, Scorched Tyrant

A nether-forged tyrant who floods the arena with shockwaves, erupting lava, and rapid dashes. Valrath is the second boss in Epic Fantasy's progression and a significant step up in difficulty from Emilya. His reward -- Valrath's Staff -- is one of the most powerful weapons in the game.

Valrath requires rare materials gathered from across the Nether and Overworld.

Attacks and Abilities

Valrath has a devastating arsenal of six attack patterns:

• Scramble -- A rapid dash toward the player. This is always his first attack, and he also triggers it when the player is sneaking. Keep moving!
• Wave -- Sends a shockwave across the ground toward the player.
• Shudder -- A ground-pounding shockwave that persists for 6 seconds, creating a deadly zone around Valrath.
• Shoot -- Launches a power-2 fireball at the player. Block with a Shield!
• Shield -- Valrath raises a barrier that blocks all incoming damage. This ability has a 5-15 second cooldown and auto-triggers when his health drops below 750 HP. Wait it out before wasting attacks.
• Stand Up -- A recovery animation that triggers after Shudder and Scramble. This is your window to deal damage.

Shield Mechanic

Valrath's shield is his most frustrating ability. When active, all damage is negated. The shield activates more frequently as his health drops, especially below 750 HP. Watch for the visual cue and stop attacking until it fades -- don't waste your attacks on his shield -- it'll drop on its own!

Strategy

1. Never crouch/sneak during the fight -- it triggers his scramble attack.
2. Block fireballs with your Shield. His ranged attacks are predictable and easily countered.
3. Keep a safe distance during Shudder. The ground shockwave lasts 6 seconds -- retreat and wait it out.
4. Attack during Stand Up windows. This is when Valrath is most vulnerable.
5. Do not attack during Shield phase. Save your durability and wait for it to drop.
6. Fire Resistance Potion is essential -- Valrath's arena floods with lava during the fight, and without fire resistance you'll take constant tick damage on top of his attacks.
