Scalding Sand

Scalding Sand is an uncommon material from Magma Slugs in the Nether, used in the Scalding Smelt Rune and Venomous Shield Brew.

Scalding Sand is superheated granular material left behind by Magma Slugs as they crawl across the scorched terrain of the Nether. These grains glow a faint orange and remain dangerously hot long after collection. Despite the handling challenges, Scalding Sand is a valued crafting ingredient for heat-infused runes and protective brews.

How to Obtain

Magma Slugs are slow-moving hostile creatures found in the Nether, typically crawling along the edges of lava lakes and through heated caverns. Their sluggish pace makes them easy to hit, but they shoot ranged fireballs, so keep moving and dodge their projectiles.

Sunscale Snakes in Desert biomes are a second source of Scalding Sand.

The Nether is a dangerous zone requiring preparation. Bring fire-resistant gear, solid armor, and ranged weapons for safe farming. Scalding Sand is an uncommon drop, so a focused farming session near a cluster of Magma Slug spawns is the most efficient approach.

Tips

  • Combine Scalding Sand farming with Healing Flame runs, since both materials come from Nether creatures and share the same dangerous environment.
  • The Venomous Shield Brew also requires Venomous Fangs from Jungle Snakes, so plan a jungle trip before or after your Nether expedition.
  • Magma Slugs are slow enough to kite easily -- circle-strafe them and dodge their fireballs while attacking.
